Jackson Howell Ivester, age 76 of Knoxville, TN passed away Saturday June 26, 2010 at Parkwest Hospital. Born in Washington, D.C. in 1933, Jack proved to be a devoted husband of 54 years and loving father. He served his country in the 101st Airborne and his community through the UT Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant. He was also past president of FOP Lodge # 31 of Sevier Co. He was a committed member and active deacon of Oakwood Baptist Church, a proud graduate of Fulton High School and its Fulton Breakfast Club. A 32nd Degree Mason, Jack enjoyed camping with the K-town Sam's Club. Jack, an avid camera man, filled the lives of his family and friends with video and provided his family with traditions of cook-outs, beach trips, rook games and New Year's Eve parties. Jack found himself in numerous predicaments that kept us all laughing.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. Family & friends will meet at the main entrance to Lynnhurst Cemetery 12:45 p.m. Wednesday for interment at 1:00 P.M. Honorary pallbearers: Richard Dodson, Gary Hancock, Gordon & Kermit Kitts, Jack Wallace.

Memorials may be made to Oakwood Baptist Church or your favorite charity.

The family will receive friends 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

Norman Marston, 73, of Leoma, TN, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM today at Neal Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg, TN. The funeral will be at 11 AM on Friday at Mars Hill United Methodist Church, with burial in Dunn Cemetery in Lawrence County. Memorials may be made to Mars Hill Methodist Church Building Fund.

 

Frank Oller, age 94, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in Jackson, TN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 25, 2009 at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons, with Dr. Wendell Lang officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

He was born on November 14, 1914 in Tamms, IL, the son of the late George Washington and Lillie Mae Brown Oller.

Mr. Oller was a retired conductor with the G M & O Railroad with 32 years of service, and was a member of West Jackson Baptist Church. He was the founder of the Golden Circle Chapter of Good Sam Camping Club.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Verta Lee Oller of Jackson, TN; daughter, Carol Joyce Bumpus of Arlington, TN. He is also survived by four grandsons, Dan Bumpus of Arlington, TN, Tim Bumpus (Mary) of Arlington, TN, Tom Bumpus (Angie) of Murfreesboro, TN, Scott Bumpus (Angie) of Medina, TN; great-grandchildren, Kristi Bumpus, Lee Bumpus, Alex Bumpus, Haiden Diffee, Carter Bumpus, Brandon Bumpus; great-great-grandchild, Landon Bumpus; brother, Kenneth Oller (Bev) of Sterling, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Pallbearers to serve will be his grandsons.

 

Daisy D. Miller, 89, of Memphis, died October 21, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital-Memphis. She was a longtime member of the Bluff City Sam’s Chapter of the Good Sam Club. She leaves her husband of 64 years, Robert L. Miller; two sons, Robert L. Miller II of Memphis and Greg V. Miller (Lynda G.) of Vero Beach, FL, and one brother, Frank Jackniki of Edmonton, Alberta Canada.

 

David Speed, 78, of Union City, died Nov. 14, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eastview Cemetery with Dr. David Russell officiating. Friends may call at White-Ranson Funeral Home from noon until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be Robert Bagwell, Harvey Bondurant, Jack Ballow, Robert Baird, Larry Myatt, Bobby Wyatt, David Parks and Ken Pitts. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Character Builders Sunday School class at First United Methodist Church in Union City, members of the Good Sam’s Camping Club, Tommy Triplett, Britt Barkley and John Smith.

The family request memorials be made to First United Methodist Church in Union City.

He was born Aug. 12, 1931, in Hickman, Ky., son of the late Lexie B. and Duva Buton (Crittendon) Speed. He married Manye Bess McGaugh July 29, 1955. She survives. He was retired from Good Tire & Rubber Co., where he worked in the receiving department for 28 years. He was a member of the United State Army and was retired from the Kentucky Army National Guard having served as a staff sergeant for twenty five years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Union City, Character Builders Sunday School class and Good Sam’s Camping Club. He was also a member of the Goodyear Retirees Club, for which he served as vice president.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Martha Lynn Kendall of Union City; two nephews, Robert Kendall and David Kendall, both of Union City, his great-niece, Amy Powell of Union City; and his great-nephew, Matt Kendall of Martin, and a great great-nephew Gavin Arnold of Union City.

He was also preceded in death by two infant daughters, Margaret Lynn Speed and Laura Beth Speed; his brother, Charles Stuart Speed; and his brother-in-law, James “Bubba” Kendall.

 

Hugh Doyle Martin, age 72, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died December 9, 2009. Mr. Martin was a member of the Al Mena Shrine and the Mt. Moriah Lodge #18 in Murfreesboro, TN. He was also a veteran of both the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict and was previous owner of Four Corners Boat Dock. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Martin and Gretchen Williamson Martin; son, Hugh Doyle Martin, II; daughter, Elma Page and brother James Martin.

He is survived by his wife, Wilene Wiggins Martin of Mt. Juliet, TN; daughters, Tanya (Terry) Crawford of Mt. Juliet, TN, Renee (Bill) McMurray of Nashville, TN; brother Bill (Sue) Martin of Clinton, TN; sister-in-law, Gail Martin of Powell, TN; grandchildren Ashley Bean, Justin and Paige Crawford; great-grandchild Seria Bean.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2009 at Bond Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bill Speight officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday ending with a Masonic service to start at 7:30 p.m. at Bond Memorial Chapel, N. Mt. Juliet Road and Weston Drive, Mt. Juliet, TN.

 

Isom Henry Long, age 90 of Hendersonville, TN passed away December 23, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Anna Margaret Long; son, Richard Long, Floyd (Martha) Long; step-children, Sonny and Angie Cunningham, Joyce and Bobby Milligan, and Wayne and Teresa Cunningham; brother, Floyd (Laveta) Long; sister, Flossie (Max) Anderson, Myra Long; 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hubert Long, with whom Mr. Long worked alongside during their involvement in the CMA's. Mr. Long was also active with the Music City Sams, First Baptist Church of Hendersonville and an Army/Air Force Veteran of WWII. Funeral ceremonies will be on Monday December 28, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with Bro. Phil Hoyt officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM and Monday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Spring Hill. Interment will follow ceremonies in Spring Hill Cemetery where family and friends will serve as Pallbearers and The Music City Sams will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Henry Thomas “Tom” Rosteck, 85, of Olive Branch, TN died at Quince Healthcare on Wednesday, January 6, 2010. Mr. Rosteck was a WWII Navy veteran, a member of Whitehaven United Methodist Church, and a 67 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Emma Jean Rosteck. Mr. Rosteck is survived by his children, Susan Rosteck Hurleigh of Olive Branch, Thomas Rosteck, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Kathee Rosteck, of Fayetteville, AR; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Rosteck, William Rosteck, Shannon Hurleigh, and Megan Hurleigh. A visitation will be held Sunday, January 10, 2010, from 3 to 6 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Monday, January 11, 2010, at 2:30 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be sent to Crossroads Hospice.

 

Elaine B. Gousy 1935-2009 WILBRAHAM, MA - Elaine B. (Welts) Gousy, 74, and formerly of Cabinet Street Springfield died Thursday October 1, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family in Mercy Medical Center, Springfield.  Elaine, a daughter of the late Alston and Elizabeth (Hodgdon) Welts was born in Parkman, Maine on September 26, 1935 and graduated from Piscataquis High School.  Elaine has resided in Springfield most of her life.  An avid hard worker, Elaine, owned a restaurant in Eliot, ME and a Dairy Mart in East Longmeadow.  She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed being with her family, gardening, traveling cross country with her husband Herve in their motor home, and was a member of the Over Mountain Sam's in Tennessee.  Elaine is survived by her husband of 50 years, Herve H. Gousy; two sons, David A. Soucie and his wife Karen of Ashfield and John H. Gousy and his wife Tracy of Monson; three daughters, Wanda Soucie-Murphy and her husband Michael of Dallas, TX, Brenda Ann Gonyea and her husband Joel of Wilbraham, and Barbara Williams and her husband Mark of Alpharetta, GA; a brother, Roger Welts of Greenville, ME; two sisters, Ann Donovan and her husband Richard of Belfast, ME and Jean Durham of Belfast, ME; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.  Visiting hours for Elaine will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield.  A funeral home service with be held on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
