Wishing Everyone a New Year Filled with Peace, Health and Happiness Getting the Bluff City Sams off to another great year of fellowship, fun & camping at our first outing of 2010 at Central B-B-Q, were, Walter & Joann Glover, Mac McCullers, and his friend Sue, Nelson & Bobbie Pilcher, Bryan & Dottie Wellbrock, James & Laura Cornell, Vera Vanderford, Laverne Powell, Jack & Sue Sams, Jimmy & Brenda Conry, Burt & Carolyn Meeks, Terry & Betty Minger, Ben & Lela Neal, James & Katie Morton, Harry & Linda Warren. Farrell & Barbi Evans, Jim & Ruth Ann McDaniel, Tom & Mildred Pincheon, Jannie & Tom Nix, Joe & Carolyn Sullivan, Joyce Hutchison & Frank Kelty. Also attending & meeting the requirements for membership in our Chapter & becoming members of the Bluff City Sams, were Frank Kelty, of Collierville, David & Linda Steele, of Germantown. A great big Bluff City welcome to them & we know they will be a great asset to our Chapter. It was a great turnout for our first gathering of the year. At this meeting we began soliciting volunteers to serve on the various committees of the chapter. We had a good response, except on the Charity committee where we only had one volunteer. This is a very important committee & we would sure appreciate someone coming forwarding & volunteering to serve on this committee. Thanks to everyone who brought items, gifts or donated money for the Ronald McDonald house in 2009, & let me urge everyone to get in the habit of bringing items for the Ronald McDonald House each & every month as they are always in need of items to help them take care of the children & their parents who stay there as they receive their very important treatment at St. Jude. Please make this a part of your campout preparations. They depend on folks like us & a little means a lot to them. And don’t forget your tabs. The members of the Charity committee will be receiving & handling all items brought to the meetings/campouts each month (wish list items, tabs, toys, etc.) going to the Ronald McDonald house. We hope you will bring your items to Logan’s, as we will have someone collecting them. It is hopeful that each & every member will stop & think, can I make a pledge of $125.00 during the year for the support of the Ronald McDonald House? If not, can I make some amount of pledge? $10.00/$20.00 a month, whatever, Just remember, this is a voluntary program for the Chapter. But wouldn’t it be great if at the end of the year we could all say, I was one of the Chapter members who made the pledge real. And remember, this is a deductible tax deduction. We congratulate Mac McCullers for making his generous donation of $125.00 at the meeting. Mac has always done his part & we offer our heartfelt thanks for his donation at the start of the New Year. How many of us are willing to follow Mac’s lead? As discussed at the meeting, we are going for 100% participation at the March Campout…. We ask that every rig bring at least one item to the campout, from the RMH Wish list. Just remember why you are doing this. Please remember to wear your nametags, vests/or shirts, to the meeting as provided in the Chapter by-laws & designated by the Chapter President prior to all functions As to the times we go out to eat, lets all wear our “Chapter” or” Good Sam” shirts to let folks know who we are & to do a little advertising. As it has been a few years since we got new Chapter shirts & since we have new members & others returning that don’t have shirts, we will be discussing at the next meeting our need to get new shirts for everyone, so we can all dress alike. The officers are recommending that we go back to the white shirts, trimmed in red & blue. I am asking everyone who has one of the old white shirts to wear it to the February dinner. A reminder: The 2010 Chapter membership dues shall be payable in January, becoming delinquent in February. If you have not submitted yours, we would appreciate you getting them in as soon as possible, so we can get our roster, & other records updated. You can mail your dues to Jo Dohogne, Treasurer 6101 Sugartree Drive Bartlett, TN 38134-5548, made out to “Bluff City Sams”. We hope no one ever needs the information, but hope if you do, the information on the Hospitals & the Counties where we camp will be useful. A reminder, please keep me updated on any change in your e-mail address, & check it out often because you will be receiving important information about what’s going on, or will be going on at the campouts. Enclosed you will find a list of activities that we plan on putting together during our campouts & we hope you will make an extra effort to take part in all of them. Happy February Birthday to Dottie Lebel, 9th Happy February Anniversary to Jack & Sue Sams, 9th & Nelson & Bobbie Pilcher, 17th. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: You read about all these terrorists, most of them came here legally, but they hung around on these expired visas, some for as long as 10-15 years. Now compare that to Blockbusters: you are two days late with a video and those people are all over you. Maybe we should put Blockbusters in charge of immigration! Hope to see everyone at Logan’s next month.
